Interested in using AI to create new products and interactions? This course is for you! It’s a hands-on introduction to artificial intelligence technology and its creative applications in our everyday lives.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has leapt from the realm of sci-fi and research to real world application with incredible speed. But as with any rapidly evolving technology, it brings many challenges in implementation. Sorting through a noisy, hype-filled landscape to find truly valuable use cases requires a discerning eye, but also a creative perspective that can imagine radically different approaches to familiar problems. In this course, we’ll work collectively to design and prototype a series of future products and objects built around different shades of artificial intelligence.
Prerequisites
No previous knowledge or specific software is required, but students should familiarise themselves with at least one existing generative AI model (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.) prior to attending.
How you’ll learn
During this course, participants will develop an interaction design project around artificial intelligence technology. Each individual, working alone or in a group, will be assisted from concept to prototype, towards a working demo and its relative design process that will be presented at the end of the course. In the process, each participant will directly experience some of the primary challenges of creating with other intelligences.

What to bring
Chris is a pioneer of Service Design and a leader in the application of emerging technologies to real-world product and service challenges. In 2001, he co-founded Live|work, the world’s first Service Design company, helping to establish a discipline that has reshaped industries and public services alike. Since then, he has continued to push the boundaries of design - as a founder and innovation leader working at the intersection of data, AI, and systems thinking.
Chris was the co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Normally, an Applied AI design studio that helped organisations including Apple, IKEA, Panasonic, and the BBC turn data into products, platforms, and services with lasting impact.
A passionate advocate for design education, Chris was part of the founding team behind the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, is a visiting lecturer on the Imperial College Business School MBA programme, and has served as an external examiner at the Glasgow School of Art.
