Anti-Computer

advised by

“The Anti Computer” is a tech integrated performance piece that builds ontop of theater in a new medium that allows computing to be more physically present in the experience as another partner rather than an soulless box. The project combines an analog output with a digital algorithm that is selecting random ASCII characters and sending them in a zig zag pattern across the page that visually represents the analog limit of the text has in the physical world that is not present in the digital world. The printer is run from a Rasperry Pi with Wifi connection written with Umfeld. The program is started using Cmake from the Terminal that allows for the ASCII characters to pass to the printer through Serial communication. The piece was evolved from the primary question asking if what would a generated poem look like and how could there be a place for generated material that is also physical in harmony to the processes that already exist in theatre.
