What are Industry Projects?
Industry Projects offer businesses and organisations from all sectors the chance to collaborate with top-tier students and graduates from our Interaction Design Programme. We’re open to working with companies from all around the world. Since 2008, we've partnered with over 25 organisations, many of which have returned, working on diverse briefs across various industries.
Proven Format & Process
Over an intensive two-week period, 10-12 CIID students and alumni generate concepts based on a brief set by our Industry Partner. Guided by expert facilitators, the process is highly focused on prototyping, making, and co-creation. The final output includes concrete deliverables and thorough documentation.
Deliverables
At the end of the project, you can expect 3-5 concepts for innovative products or services - each supported by early-stage prototypes. Depending on the brief, the prototypes may be digital, physical and/or experiential. The process and outcome is documented via presentations, microsites and/or videos for easy dissemination. The intention is to spark strategic conversations within partner companies. Therefore, the final concepts provide a foundation for future development, whether pursued internally or as a CIID-supported spin-off project.
VALUE
Partnering with CIID provides access to a talented group of designers who offer fresh, innovative solutions to industry challenges. We collaborate with our partners to develop briefs that prioritise social and environmental sustainability. Our life-centred approach leads to the creation of products and services that not only avoid harm but actively support the survival, growth, and regeneration of all living systems.
BENEFITS
These collaborations provide partners with inspiration, forward-thinking ideas, and the opportunity to work with emerging talent, highly employable for design and innovation roles. In parallel, our students and alumni gain valuable experience working on real-world challenges. This mutually beneficial process ensures alignment with industry trends and market needs.
What makes this format successful?
- The co-creation of a clear, shared brief that drives towards mutual goals
- Active participation during student check-ins and presentations allows partner engagement throughout the entire process to ensure inspiration and learnings from the process as well as the final ideas
- The initiation of new strategic conversations within the partner organisation
- The generation of fresh perspectives and insights relevant to the topic/brief
- Added value for the partner company's R&D approach and practices.
