
Cabinet of Curiosity is a curated collection of small electronic experiments, born out of a dive into the exploration of curiosity.. Rather than building toward one final object, the project gathers a series of hands-on studies, each testing a different material, circuit, or interaction. Underlying the collection is a simple curiosity: that circuits and components, often thought of as purely functional, can also become expressive material, and that something playful and even artful can emerge from wire, solder, and a small light left to glow.
The collection began with simple explorations: soldering basic circuits, connecting LEDs, and building a small paper maze wired with lights to guide a hand through it. From there, the studies expanded into a range of playful objects - a soft, stitched "object cozy" lit from within, handmade switches shaped like hearts and loops of wire, a felt gauntlet that lights up along the wrist, a dimming light that responds to dusk, and a small vibrating object powered by a coin cell. Many pieces were built from scraps and offcuts found around the studio, repurposing cardboard, foil, and fabric into working circuits, before later studies pushed into new materials like bio-based materials, charcoal, and aluminium as alternative conductors.
Along the process, several practical learnings emerged around circuit design, the limitations of materials, and the challenge of bonding different materials together. Soldering itself became an unexpectedly meditative part of the process, one that consistently rewarded patience. Perhaps the clearest takeaway, though, is that even the simplest components, when put together with care and attention, can become an artefact - something people would admire.
