This social clock is made for our CIID community. It changes how we view our morning routine.
Each morning, we meet at La Frasca, our dining space, for breakfast. This ritual brings us together before the day starts. The CIID building is far away, needing a 20-30 minute commute. We must manage our morning schedule well. Some of us bike or walk to CIID. Many want to exercise or shower before joining everyone for breakfast and classes. We wanted to keep our La Frasca tradition while recognising our time constraints.
The clock has a central cylinder that acts as a timer, but with a twist: it translates time into activities. For example, 45 minutes before class, it says: "Time for: shower, breakfast, coffee, and chitchat." When there's only 10 minutes left, it updates to "Coffee and quick chat." The clock also tracks attendance. Students press a button upon arriving at La Frasca, helping us see who isn’t present and check on them.
This clock helps CIID students make the most of their mornings. It helps us enjoy time together while getting to class ready and on time. This turns time pressure into successful mornings.
