Cubit

Cubit is an interactive device consisting of two cubes that generates music based on a user-defined combination of mood and genre. One cube is dedicated to mood and the other to genre. Users configure the output via two rotating cubes. The Genre Cube defines the style, while the Mood Cube controls energy.

Each cube face offers four distinct options to mix and match. When the cubes are separated, the device remains off; once connected, it powers on and begins playback. Rotation serves as the primary input, and as soon as the cubes are held still, the selected music starts.

The device is built around two Arduino boards, an Arduino Uno R4 and an Arduino Uno Q, each housed within an independent cube with its own power source. The two units communicate wirelessly via Wi-Fi, and each face of the cube is mapped using an accelerometer to detect orientation. Using the Arduino Uno Q, the device connects to the Claude AI API, which generates a prompt based on the user's selection and queries Spotify to retrieve a corresponding track.

Whether a user selects a calm mood paired with salsa or an energetic mood paired with pop, the system always surfaces an unexpected track within that combination, introducing an element of discovery into every interaction. Cubit is designed to expand the listener's musical experience, it is an invitation to engage with AI through physical interaction, offering not just familiarity, but the possibility of encountering something new and unexpected.
