As the name indicates, Home Away from Home is a self-discovery journey shot from the perspective of a newly arrived student who just moved to Bergamo. The story starts with a journey through the most iconic view, leading viewers through the most iconic route. As the camera takes viewers into the older part of Bergamo, the question of "what is Bergamo?" starts emerging — the church? The cobblestone streets? The old Italian charm?
As the quest continued and the pursuit of authentic Bergamo arose, the camera showed us another side of Bergamo — a real and unfiltered side of the daily life of Bergamaschi. The impression of a homogenous and exclusive culture stereotype started to be broken down. People and restaurants from different ethnic backgrounds took over the camera and showed viewers a side of Bergamo that most people don't see.
Toward the end of the journey, the story turns from street views to the inside of the human experience. What defines us is not how different we are, but how similar we are. At the end of the quest, we are all human — we coexist, we share a moment, we bond, we experience joy, we fall in love, we dispute injustice, we call Bergamo home.
