Who hasn’t experienced this? You simply want to make an espresso with your moka pot, but it is still sitting on the hob. You are not sure whether it is still too hot to wash or whether it has cooled down enough to handle. Until now, there was only one way to find out: touching the moka pot and potentially burning yourself.

With the “MochaHot” project, this is now a thing of the past. The small platform, equipped with a temperature sensor, uses a red LED to indicate when the moka pot is still too hot to wash. Once it has cooled down, the LED switches off, letting you know that you can safely pick it up and wash it without burning yourself.

Using simple electronic components, the team built a small prototype that solves this everyday problem. During the project, the team discovered just how much can be built with a few sensors and some jumper wires, and how surprisingly simple solutions can sometimes be to seemingly big challenges.
