HONOURS

Rooted

Rooted is a manifestation tracking app which combines the natural growth cycles of trees with personal goal setting. It grew out of a two-week GUI course. The concept connects digital tools with organic time. It challenges our culture of instant gratification by drawing on nature's patient wisdom.

You begin by writing a manifestation or personal goal in the app. Once submitted, the manifestation becomes a digital plant in their personal garden. Over time, the plant grows taller and more developed, showing how much time has passed since the goal was set. The app sends no deadlines or notifications. Instead, it lets manifestations exist and grow in the background. When you return to the app days, weeks, or months later they see how their digital garden has grown. It becomes a timeline of their intentions and goals.

Rooted is for those who set intentions but often forget them until they come true- experiencing déjà vu when goals come to life. They then recall envisioning this exact outcome months or years ago. The app suits those who want to track their goals without the pressure of traditional apps. It avoids completion rates and strict timelines.

The course began with a key insight: "Every tree sheds its leaves at its own phase in Fall and blooms at its own phase in Spring." This showed a contrast with human behaviour. We rush to finish things on fixed schedules. We ignore our own natural rhythms. Could digital tools honour personal timing instead of set deadlines? Manifestations take their own time. Rooted helps users see this process, using trees as a symbol for patient, organic growth.

Rooted offers a judgment-free space to track intentions. Other apps penalise missed deadlines. Rooted celebrates growth at any pace. Users build a visual archive of their goals. They can see patterns in how and when their goals come true.

This course demonstrated howt o turn big ideas into real design. I learned that not every interface needs to push for speed. Sometimes the best design slows us down and reconnects us with natural rhythms.
