Bergamo has a rich history of art, design and making. The making is still ongoing but in isolated places. This project aimed to bring the design community in Bergamo closer to CIID as an institution and as a result form a close-knit community of designers within Bergamo. We designed an event space where bergamo based designers use the RFID installed tokens provided by us. The aim of the event for participants to engage in conversations over dinner in an ambient atmosphere. The RFID tokens enabled easy exchange of email addresses and messages and scheduling of meetings in the future.
The ideas for space curation were borne out of our interviews with local Bergamascos and insiders from CIID. We drew insights on potential users’ behaviours, pain points and motivations. Many locals were unaware of CIID as an international institution of design and those who knew were curious to participate and learn more about the work done here. Therefore, an event space curation with an objective to sow seeds of community building seemed like a ripe idea.
Over the course of working on this project, we sharpened and developed research, interview questionnaires and finally prototyping based on primary and secondary research data. We took inspiration from Bergamo’s local institutions like museums (Gamec) and seasonal markets and modeled it on their strategies to build collectives.
