HONOURS

Ritual of Solicit

To design and prototype an experience that transcends the time scale of a human life, we were interested in thinking detached from objects, working communally and across generations. What outlasts generations is mostly immaterial, e.g., religion, beliefs and cults, so we decided to explore the creation of a ritual.

The ritual is set in the CIID context, supporting members and their families through important moments and periods of their lives by connecting with peers and manifesting a hopeful future. Every new cohort comes together at the beginning of their course. They write their personal wishes to the universe on little tags, connect with the old building, and strengthen their bond to each other. Their wishes stay in the building as physical objects and serve as reminders during stressful and hard periods.

The shape of the tags was inspired by the ceilings of the Monastery of Astino, while the idea of hanging wishes was inspired by the “Wishing Trees” of  China.
